Amazon Echo device users have been getting creeped out lately because their Alexa voice-assistant has reportedly started laughing spontaneously after certain requests. It sounds like something straight out of a horror film.
An Amazon representatives stated, “In rare circumstances, Alexa can mistakenly hear the phrase ‘Alexa, laugh.'”
They also reported, “We are changing that phrase to be ‘Alexa, can you laugh?’ which is less likely to have false positives, and we are disabling the short utterance ‘Alexa, laugh.’ We are also changing Alexa’s response from simply laughter to, ‘Sure, I can laugh,’ followed by laughter.”
They are working on it, however, some of these reports about Alexa laughing without any command given are too good not to tell.
One user posted, “It was really creepy,” when Alexa started laughing during an office conversation.
Another user described hearing “very loud and creepy laughing” when he was about to fall sleep and tweeted, “There’s a good chance I get murdered tonight.”
Similar reports were seen on Reddit. One user said his device shouted a”chilling, witch-like laugh… It scared the wife and my 5-year-old so badly that we unplugged her.”
Another user stated that Alexa refused to let him turn off the lights. He said that “They kept turning back on.” And also, “After the third request, Alexa stopped responding and instead did an evil laugh. The laugh wasn’t in the Alexa Voice. It sounded like a real person.”
This user’s Echo device started to laugh “without being provoked… It was a HA-HA-HA,” he said.
Many other users started replying to their accounts! “Tonight she laughed when prompted off, it was bone-chillingly creepy. […] Still don’t know what to think,” said one of the users, another statement wrote, “It started laughing like she was being tickled.”
So, Alexa helps to make life easier and less scary right? HA-HA-HA
