If you think that growing a beard won’t make you look better than without any facial hair, this amazing story of a shy insurance guy might give you inspiration. When the 21-year-old businessman named Gwilym Pugh started an insurance company, he worked from the comfort of his bedroom.
Unfortunately, lack of physical activity and his injuries made him gain up to 280 pounds or 127 kilograms. But Gwilym found rays of light and managed to escape from this life-damaging lifestyle when his barber told him to grow a beard!
“At that time I was pretty overweight, working 12 hours a day, plagued with injuries which meant I couldn’t train at all,” Gwilym expressed. “The business was doing okay, but I decided I needed to get my life back in order and wanted to get healthy again.”
Several years ago, Gwilym formed a folk band together with his friends. That’s when his barber urged him to let his facial hair grow. He was convinced, and in addition to his beard, the freshly-baked musician decided to shed those excess pounds. He also realized that his desk job was not healthy for him, so he decided to quit.
“It was the best thing for my health as I stopped sitting for nine to 10 hours a day,” Gwilym said after losing 90 pounds over the course of five years. While he was growing his beard and losing weight, the man who became healthier than ever created an Instagram account to share his progress. Soon enough, Nathan Palmer came across his page, and things skyrocketed quickly.
Gwilym is now a part of the London agency AMCK Models. His great efforts allow him to work on campaigns with Diesel, Bud Light, Vans, and other big names in the industry. He also became an ambassador for House 99, David Beckham’s new male grooming brand.
