Unfortunately racism is still a widespread issue. Just do a Twitter search for “banking while Black”, “driving while Black”, and “shopping while Black.” When Emmit Walker, a music executive from DC, was boarding a recent flight, he also learned what it was like “flying while Black.” But his response is absolutely spot on, nipping casual racism in the bud.
As he was waiting in line to board the plane, a female passenger behind him had a lot to say about his presence in the Priority boarding lane. His response was epic.
Stories like Walker’s remind us that racism is still a very real worldwide problem. His experience is an eye-opener to what black people go through every day, but also a heroic way to approach a problem with humor and class.
